Pioneer Village and The Hogle Zoo

On Friday of our vacation we went to the This is the Place Heritage Park, which has a pioneer village that has buildings from the time around when the valley was settled. Katie signed up to join the militia. She had to go around the village with enlistment papers and had to do such things as chores, visit the nursing station, make a bag for her money, get a check for her payment, and take it to the bank to get paid. Here she is below making her money bag:

They had a civil war enactment in the middle of the village. Here are Katie and I waiting for the show to begin.

Here's a pic from the battle. Two sides were fighting.

And then the calvary rode in to save the day:

The showdown:

Later we rode the train:

We stopped off at an Indian village. Katie got to make an Indian necklace and we checked out some teepees and forts:

And here was a model boat we climbed on:

Next we went to the Hogle Zoo. This was one of Katie's favorite activities from our trip. Besides real animals, they had a bunch of animatronic dinosaurs there too, which was really cool. They moved their heads around and sometimes more than that and they roared:

Pretzel time! Yum!

And cotton candy:

Checkin out the giraffes:

MMMMM! Love that cotton candy!

On to see the tigers:

These ones are okay to pet:

And sit on.

More animals:

This gorilla was really interested in Katie. They stared at each other for a while and if Katie moved to a different window, he followed her.

Riding a dino!

Hmmm, looks just like the real one.

These are mommy's favorite zoo animals: monkeys.

Hanging out:

After the zoo we headed to the Gateway Mall where we had dinner and watched a movie in the theater. We watched Captain America, which was excellent!
